International Day of Peace

Today, September 21st, is International Day of Peace.
The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. This is a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.
2020 is a year of listening and learning. A global conversation on building the peaceful and prosperous future that we want.
In these difficult times of physical distancing, we dedicate this International Day of Peace to foster dialogue and collect ideas. We invite you to unite and share thoughts on how to deal with this situation, heal our planet and change it for the better. Even though we may not be able to stand next to each other, we can still dream together.
We can “Shape Peace Together” by spreading compassion, kindness, and hope in the face of the pandemic.
The posted image is a painting by Louis Jean François Lagrenée from 1770 called “Mars and Venus, Allegory of Peace”.
In this beautiful representation of peace, Mars, the Roman god of War, throws back the rich green bed curtains that frame the scene. As the drapery parts, the morning light spills in to reveal the form of the sleeping Venus, the Roman goddess of love. Mars gazes at her, utterly captivated by her beauty. Her love has tempered his fierce character, and his shield and sword lie abandoned on the floor. Echoing the lovers’ bliss, a pair of white doves, symbolizing Peace, build a nest in Mars’s helmet.
In this day of peace, I share my wish of peace with you and I work on myself to be more understanding, forgiving and compassionate. I am thankful to have the Bach Flower remedies to help me.
How about you? Do you also feel that you could be more understanding, forgiving, and compassionate?
